Nan Goldin is one of my absolute favorite photographers. She is known to capture her friends, lovers and family in richly colored, almost snapshot like candid photographs. And I was thrilled to see this editorial in Grey Magazine, where she partnered with the Rodarte design team to capture images of the archives of the Rodarte collection . IT is a fine example of a creative partnership between a photographer that shares similar feeling and aesthetic. They are both excellent at their particular crafts and want to be known for that and that only. Not fame or money. Rodarte and Nan Goldin are evolutionary in that they go where there creative heart leads them. They are not dictated by trends or by corporate numbers. Each piece being the clothing or the photograph are reflective of how difficult it is to achieve simplicity and perfection.
The stylist is Valentina Ilardi-Martin, I love the above photograph how the texture of the dress compliments the background wallpaper.
Yes, the below image I’m in LOVE with- it’s the hats – the styling – the colors LOVE IT!
Blurred, yet attention to detail.
What is the lesson to be learned? That each creative person has to carve out their own definitive style! And you don’t need to play by the “rules”.
